Spontaneity in Mohonk, New York.
So I decided to do something I don’t normally do this past weekend. Or I guess it was something I normally can’t do. I went away on a spur of the moment weekend getaway to Mohonk Mountain House in New York. And seriously, it was spur of the moment. My friend and I didn’t decide to make the trip until 2 in the morning the morning of! Ever heard of this place? Well it really is the coolest, folks. It’s just an hour and a half outside of New York City, and it’s like a whole different world out there. The resort at Mohonk is basically on the side of a mountain. The town it’s in is New Paltz, which you may know, is an old college town, all hippies and kids hangin’ on street corners playin’ guitars. We spent our time, hiking, eating, and playing platform tennis, which is kind of a cross between tennis, squash, and racquetball. I hadn’t played in years, but it was just too much fun and a great work out. And after eating all the fabulous food, including some great short ribs, I certainly needed a run around the court. On top of it all, the resort was hosting a Rock & Roll weekend with Cousin Brucie, whom I know from working at WOR and fundraising etc. So after getting in touch with him, I ended up judging “The Twist” contest at one of the dance events. How fun?! It really goes to show that sometimes taking a spontaneous dive and doing something new can really provide some great experiences and unique memories.
