Who Do You Love
Who Do You Love -Movie Review
The life story of legendary record producer Leonard Chess, founder of Chess Records, the label that helped popularize Blues music during the 1950s and ’60s.
Who Do You Love? should actually be whom do you love, but I suppose that we are willing to give people a little bit of leeway when it comes to movies. This is director by Jerry Zaks who actually is going to be around on Broadway directing the Addams Family and already did Marvin’s Room for which he won a Tony and it is really directed very much like a play. It has got a terrific cast, it is the story of Leonard and Phil Chess who are the legendary founders of Chess Records, they may be legendary, but I didn’t know about them. And if nothing else, Leonard Chess brought Muddy Waters to everybody’s attention as well as Bo Diddly who actually wrote Who do you love and I suppose that is why it is called Who Do You Love. This is really a terrific movie with a terrific cast. Alessandro Nivola who was in Coco Before Chanel and Junebug, John Abrams in Meet the Parents and a whole bunch of really great musicians who play famous musicians. I really like this even though we have seen so much of it before, but it is still a great snapshot of an era in which rock and roll was about to be born. Four stars.
