Whatever Works – DVD Review

Woody Allen’s new flick starring Larry David.

“Whatever Works” is written and directed by Woody Allen, and it’s really vintage Woody Allen. Vintage if your a fan may be a good idea. Vintage if you’re getting a little bored is not such a good idea. Basically, Larry David plays Woody Allen, who gets hooked up with Evan Rachel Wood, who’s a woman young enough to be his granddaughter. He’s cranky and fairly unpleasant. Patricia Clarkson plays Evan Rachel Wood’s mom who comes to the big city and gets converted into hippiedom. I basically had seen all of this before. I didn’t think the acting was very good. I thought there was probably a lot of improvisation that didn’t work very well, and basically, I’m tired of recycled Woody Allen, of him basically talking about how he thinks he’s smarter than everybody else and a genius. He’s getting crankier and redundant. One star.
