JOY’S REVIEW

We Are What We Are is viewed as original from the ideas that we’re dealing with a family of cannibals. Do I care about this? You know I have to tell you, I kept watching this thinking at some point I’m going to start caring. It started with a middle aged man dropping dead in Mexico City at a mall and it leaves his widow and his three kids destitute because he worked at a street fair repairing watches. The family is confronted with not only the loss of the dad, but how to survive. They’ve always existed on a diet of human flesh consumed in ritual ceremonies and the victims are boys that have been provided by the dad. Now they have to decide what they’re going to do. I thought this one was fairly stupid and fairly disgusting. You really don’t care much about anybody and it is incredibly bloody. So I don’t know why people decide movies like this are kind of cool, maybe it’s a metaphor. I didn’t like it. Zero stars.
