URBAN ROOTS is a documentary that tells the story of the spontaneous emergence of urban farming in the city of Detroit. Detroit, once an industrial powerhouse of a lost American era, is a city devastated by the loss of half its population due to the collapse of manufacturing.
Urban Roots is another one of the documentaries that’s sponsored by Whole Foods, and this one looks at Detroit, which is a city that’s in serous trouble, and realizes there’s a huge number of vacant lots. So rather than letting them be a source for trash, what they’ve done is farm them, and talking about how growing your own food not only gives you access to food, but makes you feel better about the whole thing. It’s a great project and good on Detroit. Three stars.
