Up – Movie Review
The newest animation from PIXAR! UP
Pick of the Week!
“Up” is the latest from Pixar with Walt Disney and it focuses on a cranky 75-year old man who has lost his wife, who was the firebrand of the relationship, who always wanted to go off and do adventurous things. And, life intervened in the meantime so he decides because they are trying to put him in old age housing, that he is going to take off with the balloons that he sells, and take his house and go to South America. Haven’t we all thought about exactly that, with or without helium. A young Explorer Scout, who is more enthusiastic than competent, exactly is a stowaway and the two of them have adventures, including talking to dogs and an evil explorer that was once their hero. This is a movie really about second chances and loss and loneliness and letting people in. It’s also great animation, with some lovely music. I probably could have done without the talking dogs, to be quite honest, but that seems to be a staple of animation these days, and there was exactly some vague explanation given for it. But, this is a movie that will make you laugh and make you cry and it’s already being touted as one of the best movies of the year, animation or not. Five stars.
