Toe to Toe
Toe to Toe – Movie Review
A story about two lacrosse teammates from opposite sides of the track.
Toe to Toe is most remarkable for Leslie Uggums, who plays the kind of heartfelt grandmother in the movie. This story is of two young women. One of the young women is African American and being raised by her grandmother. Her actual mother is quite distant and the girl seems kind of lost because of this. One thing she is sure about is playing lacrosse and wanting to go to Princeton. Her first ally on the lacrosse team, is the other young women, who I hate to say is just sort of blond and slutty. The story revolves between the two of them, the boyfriend they end up sharing, and their conflict between deciding on whether or not they’re friends or enemies. It’s not a bad movie, it just doesn’t have much dramatic tension, and not much star power. I just don’t know where they’re going to actually find an audience for this. I suppose if the actresses — both of whom are quite competent, were better known, that it might sort of be one of those teen flicks. But I think it’s going to have a hard time finding an audience, but I’ll give it two stars.
