Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, is based on John Le Carre novels, and if you’ve ever read them, which I have, they start off very slowly. This one stars Gary Oldman as Smiley, and has assorted terrific British actors, including Toby Jones, the terrific Colin Firth, and Ciaran Hinds; a really terrific cast of characters. The story is set in the Cold War in 1973, and there’s a mole in MI 6 who is reporting state secrets to the Russians, and we have to figure out who it is. Thing is it just moves so slowly and so ponderously, and Smiley is a character that doesn’t show much emotion. Gary Oldman is truly terrific in it, but it’s a very slow-paced movie, so whether you like it is probably going to depend on what your tolerance is for relatively slow-paced movies. I’d give it three stars.
