Til Divorce Do us Part, I went kicking and screaming, I know the publicist, who really pressued me to come, and I’m glad she did, because it has an incredibly gifted cast, starring Erin Maguire, Gretchen Wylder and Dana Wilson. It is written by Ruthe Ponturo, and apparently she played the role of Kate, which is hard to believe..she wrote the lyrics as a personal exorcism after her producer husband left her for a younger woman. There are actually 27 songs that occue in under an hour and half. Apparently the was orginally shorter, and Ruthe was in it. I think its hard to imagine someone doing a better job than Erin Maguire, and all three women have terrific voices. The weakest part of the play is John Thomas Fischer, but he wrote the music, and the music is good, and I guess they needed a reason for him to be onstage, and he plays Donny the lovelorn columnist. But you will have a great time and there is some serious psychology going on here, including falling in love with late night TV, and how you sort of transmute from misery to getting rid of the revenge, so I suppose it is appropriate that i see a serious play by Craig Lucas about getting rid of revenge and then an equally serious, although funnier and more musical one about getting over the anger of of divorce. 4 stars
