The Trouble with Bliss
The Trouble With Bliss stars Michael C. Hall, Chris Messina, Brie Larson, Peter Fonda and Lucy Liu, so it’s a pretty impressive cast and has done well on the indie circuit. This is a story of a 35-year-old guy whose last name is Bliss — teehee — who basically is a slacker. He wants to travel, but he has no money. He wants a job, but he has no prospects. He lives with his dad and he basically finds himself in a relationship with an 18 year old who’s the daughter of his former high school buddy and he also has kind of a cougar neighbor, who’s married, who’s making passes at him as well. I suppose we’re supposed to find this hilarious. I found it sort of tedious and the idea that a 35-year-old man is having sex with an 18 year old doesn’t exactly ring my chimes. So I guess part of whether or not you like this movie is dependent on whether or not you have a tolerance for this kind of shenanigan. If you do, well good for you. If you don’t, then it’s probably skip-able. For me it was probably skip-able, one star.
