THE TOPP TWINS: UNTOUCHABLE GIRLS

SYNOPSIS

Fun, disarming and musically provocative, the Topp Twins are New Zealand’s finest lesbian country and western singers and the country’s greatest export since rack of lamb and the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

JOY’S REVIEW

This is one of those documentaries that kind of sneaks up on you. It’s a documentary about, in fact, the Topp girls who are from New Zealand; somebody asked about comedy in New Zealand, and they said, well, it’s the Topp twins, which are lesbian yodelers who do country western, which doesn’t sound all that much fun, but it actually works. They’re terrific, and the relationship between the two of them is probably as fascinating as anything else. This really is a documentary that will make you giggle and make you appreciate how valuable some relationships are in this life. They are so tender with one another and so in tune with another it makes you long for a sisterhood like theirs. I give it four and a half stars.
