A schizophrenic (Jamie Foxx), is a homeless musician on Skid Row, who dreams of playing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Through “chance,” he meets a journalist (Robert Downey Jr.), who tries to help this mentally disturbed man get “back on his feet” and make his dreams come true. Now out on DVD.
“The Soloist” is an unlikely movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, where Jamie Foxx plays a homeless, musical genius, and Robert Downey Jr. plays a reporter who finds him. I know we’ve seen this story before. But, the acting in this is so good, and the soundtrack is so good, that you just hope it will do very well, and a lot of people will see, because I guarantee you’ll walk out with a different understanding of schizophrenia, probably the most accurate depiction of schizophrenia ever seen on film. Two wonderful actors at the top of their game. This was supposed to have come out last year, but somebody wisely decided to keep it away from the Oscar rush at the end of the year. Hopefully this will give it its own audience. It’s a movie that deserves to be seen. Five stars
