The Smurfs

JOY REVIEW

Is there any reason in the world to see this movie? Well, look, if you have a five-year-old, realistically, it’s the only thing around that your five-year-old will probably like. The problem is it is completely graceless. There is no charm about it and there is no innovation about it. It’s in 3-D. I mean, do you care? I don’t care about Smurfs. And they take them from their enchanted forest and put them in New York, which is probably the only appeal that the movie had for me, as at least there are landmarks in New York including some New York icons that might as well be buildings, at the very end. The bad guy is incredibly stupid, they have a talking cat, whenever they need something to happen he either smashes into a bus or somebody smashes him. It’s truly Three Stooges. That’s probably insulting the Three Stooges. It’s very much the kind of slamming five-year-old humor. I’ll give it one star. If you’re a five-year-old, you may want two stars. But still no grace.
