The Other Guys
THE OTHER GUYS – MOVIE REVIEW
Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city’s top cops whom they idolize — only things don’t quite go as planned.
‘The Other Guys’ is what ‘Dinner For Schmucks’ aspired to be and really wasn’t, which is funny, a little bit mean-spirited and satiric, but actually teaches you something while remaining wildly entertaining. It stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The posters for the film, I admit, look awful. They make you think: I don’t want to see this movie. But trust me, you do. It’s very well-written, it’s very funny, it’s laugh out loud, it’s by far and away the funniest movie of the summer, even including ‘Despicable Me’ and certainly excluding ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ and some other movies that attempted to be funny but weren’t. The movie opens with the wonderful Samuel L. Jackson, and Duane ‘the Rock’ Johnson, being super cops, with one of the best stunts you’ve ever seen. I’m not going to tell you too much about the plot, but the idea is that Will Ferrell is a cop, but a dweeby one that somehow has this animal magnetism for gorgeous women including Eva Mendez who plays his wife.
