The Odd Life of Timothy Green

JOY REVIEW

The Odd Life of Timothy Green stars Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton and also Dianne Wiest, and C.J. Adams as Timothy Green. There is a bunch of other kind of cool people in the cast. This is a story of Jennifer and Joel trying desperately to have a baby and finding out that they’re not going to have one and being very upset about it. So they decide to sort of just write down all the characteristics they want in a kid. Low and behold, even in a country that’s filled with drought, which I think is supposed to be an emotional metaphor, this adorable kid shows up all dirty out of the garden in the middle of a downpour. What we have is all of their wishes coming true, some more handily than others. For me, if you take this as sort of a literal movie, it’s kind of the Ruby Sparks of the pre-pubescent set. If you take it as a metaphor for adoption and what we want from our kids, and what we’re willing to accept, I kind of think it works. It’s charming, a little bit fluffy, a little bit lightweight, but at least a good advertisement for adoption. Three stars.
