It’s kind of fun to see The Muppets again. I’m just going to warn you up front, the first 10 minutes of this movie you’re going to think what am I doing here, I really don’t want to be here, and it would be hard to argue with you. However, if you hang in there, The Muppets actually take over and we take the movie away from Jason Segel, who, with all due respect — I know he’s the producer, I know this was an act of love, I know the only reason the movie got made is because of him, but he should have been the producer and not the star in it. Jason doesn’t fare well and Amy Adams, who seems incapable of anything but perky, seems less animated than Kermit, but she has a thankless part. Chris Cooper on the other hand covers himself with glory: he snarls, he grins, he raps (yeah, raps) and is just generally wonderful. This has got a whole bunch of cameos, which are adorable. As soon as the Muppets come on, it’s fun again, but just suffer through the first couple of minutes. Three stars.
