THE MILK TRAIN DOESN’T STOP HERE ANYMORE

SYNOPSIS

Academy Award® winner Olympia Dukakis stars in this haunting Tennessee Williams drama. In her picturesque Italian mountaintop home, Flora Goforth, a wealthy American widow has detached from the world in order to write her memoirs. When a handsome and mysterious young visitor arrives without warning to keep Flora company in her final hours, this dreamlike play blossoms into a fascinating meditation on life and death.

JOY’S REVIEW

The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore is one of Tennessee Williams’ less popular plays. This version features the great Olympia Dukakis who plays Flora Goforth  who’s the prototype for all of Tennessee Williams’ women. And she kind of chews on the scenery. The idea is that she’s a woman of a certain age who’s really nasty to her assistant, who’s played by Maggie Lacey, without any emotion whatsoever. A young handsome guy comes up the mountain and seems to seduce her assistant, her gay friend and Olympia as well. And this is pure Tennessee Williams. But Olympia Dukakis is kind of a force of nature here, and for that, you sort of get sucked in. So I’d give it three stars.
