The Late Christopher Bean – Theater Review

SYNOPSIS

THE LATE CHRISTOPHER BEAN is a play that was written by Sidney Howard in 1929, but it seems as fresh as if it were written this year. The story of a country doctor who treats a young artist who becomes famous 10 years after his death. And the doctor who seems relatively selfless is visited by a con artist, an art critic, and an art gallery owner. The idea of this does art have value beyond its worth in the free market? And again, where people are worried about the value of their art as opposed to the beauty for their art. It seems very timely. The cast is very good uniformly. The standout is really the father who is played by James Murtaugh who’s face you’ll recognize whether or not you recognize his name or not. He has done a lot on Broadway. This is a really four star experience. It’s great.
