The Jammer is about roller derby and stars Patch Darragh as an orphan who finds he has a gift from God, even though his fiance, who is not adorable, feels it’s sinful as does Father Kosciusko, played by Todd Weeks. The cast is good, the standouts are certainly Patch and Billy Eugene Jones who plays Lenny Ringle who is kind of a shadowy promoter of roller derby. This is set in 1958 in Bushwick Brooklyn and deals with a bygone era to a certain extent. There are cardboard cut out figures and pretend skating. It’s a very clever device that talks about love, second chances, redemption, finding your own path, and all those other good things that happen in the theatre. This one is clever and fresh, with a good cast, so four stars.
