The Interrupters is certainly well meaning. It’s a group of ex-gang members in the South-side of Chicago who basically interrupt violence on the street with the idea being that this will lead to less violence. You certainly applaud their guts if not their common sense. The most interesting thing about the movie is the access that they seem to have had, or maybe people are just so used to cameras that they don’t care anymore. Gang arguments go on and people get into each other’s face right on camera. The premise we’ve seen before and we’ve probably seen it done in a more entertaining way. But it is interesting for that kind of access, and certainly makes you worry about the future of American youth in poor communities. One and a half stars.
