The Heat is the latest Sandra Bullock & Melissa McCarthy movie that has both of them playing parts we’ve seen them in before. We’ve seen everybody else playing the same parts, which is they are mismatched partners. Sandra is an FBI agent that nobody like, and Melissa McCarthy is crude and rude local cop in Boston that nobody likes. They team up together to take down a drug lord. This movie is incredibly violent, incredibly rude and crude. There’s a part of me that really objects to casting Melissa McCarthy over and over again as a foul-mouth overweight slob. I think she’s a good actress and appealing but can’t we find some other role for her? Do we have to follow into that stereotype? They shoot Sandra Bullock and Melissa through completely different lenses, quite obviously, which is also somewhat alarming. We’ve seen it all before…It’s too long, just under two hours. It should have been 90 minutes at most. We’ve seen it al before, been there, done it. Two and a half stars.
