Grand Budapest Hotel is the latest from Wes Anderson, and you either love Wes Anderson, or you don’t. I must say I’ve been on the fence , sometimes I like his stuff, sometimes I find his stuff to be so self-indulgent as to be ridiculous, but this I think is really charming. It is set in a mythical country just before WWI, and Ray Fiennes plays a concierge, I don’t want to tell you too much about it. It is mythical story…let me just tell you who is in the cast, and that may motivate you to go see it. F Murray Abraham, Adrian Brody, Willam Defoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude law, Bill Murray, Ed Norton, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson and Owen Wilson, so the only people NOT in this one are you and me. It is really a charming confection of a story, and part of it is the acting is so good, and it’s a very different movie than you are used to seeing, it is whimsical and somewhat farcical, with these heavy-duty actors that I was really charmed by, 4 stars
