The Girl

Story of a ten-year-old girl left alone in her house in the summer of 1981.

The Girl is a Swedish movie about a nine-and-a-half-year-old whose family goes off to Africa and they can’t take her because she’s too young.  They leave her with an aunt, who is clearly a bit of a loose, slutty canon. And the little girl gets tired of this and sort of dummies up an invitation for a boyfriend to come and whisk the aunt away, so the nine-and-a-half-year-old is left on her own. I guess it’s kind of Home Alone Swedish style. She falls in with a couple of little girls who are precociously sexual and make her only friend, a little boy take off his pants, . There are all sorts of comings and goings in this. It really doesn’t amount to much except the little girl has such an angelic face. It truly is an Swedish Home Alone, except it’s not funny. So I’ll give it two stars, but maybe you have to be Swedish to appreciate this.
