The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is based on the worldwide bestseller, and I have read all three of the books and seen all three of the original movies. This one is brilliantly cast. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara play the two title characters and Robin Wright plays one of the love interests. It’s beautifully cast. It’s beautifully edited. The opening graphics are amazing. For the first 10 or 15 minutes, I thought, this was going to win the Oscar for best movie of the year. But then the dark part of the book sort of kicks in, and if you haven’t read it and you don’t know what’s going on, this is an incredibly violent, perverse look at human nature. I thought it was a terrific movie. It hit all the right notes, but it is a dark, dark movie. I’d give it five stars in terms of editing, acting, scene, but in terms of the content, it’s so upsetting that I would give it a three, so I give it a four, four and a half stars. If you read the book, you know what’s going to happen, or if you’ve seen the original movie, you’ll be okay, but for everybody else it may be a little upsetting.
