The Giant Mechanical Man

JOY REVIEW

The Giant Mechanical Man is very much a Tribeca Indie special. It’s got a great cast with Chris Messina who plays the giant mechanical man, Jenna Fischer who plays kind of a 30-something young woman who’s trying to find herself and has to move in with her sister, who is the adorable Malin Akerman, Lucy Punch, who’s adorable as well, who plays Chris’ girlfriend who moves out and Topher Grace plays an incredibly narcissistic author, so you can tell it’s got a great cast of impossibly pretty people. It takes place in Chicago and it’s very angsty and sort of the occupy Wall Street group still trying to find who they are, although everybody has a gorgeous apartment. It just — it’s kind of an ordinary, kind of angsty low-key love story, but it’s really raised a bit  — partially because of the dialogue, but mostly because of the cast. Three and a half stars.
