The Fairy is very hard to describe. It’s kind of a fairytale, it’s in French, and the idea is this kind of ne’er do well we meet because he’s bicycling the waterfront at Le Havre with a plastic bag over his head and his bicycle chain keeps coming off. It turns out he’s the night watchman at this kind of weird hotel/motel. He keeps getting interrupted because a guy comes in with a dog and he says, “I’m sorry, we don’t allow dogs.” I’m not going to tell you all about it. This is silly fun. The idea is this woman checks in and she says she’s a fairy, and he’s allowed three wishes. The two of them fall in love and actually have a baby. I mean it’s sort of surrealism with a great dollop of whimsy which I really kind of love. I mean it’s really laugh-out-loud fun at some points. I’d give it four stars. It’s whack, but it’s fresh and unusual.
