The Edge of Love
Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller star in The Edge of Love, a story about the complex relationship between Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, his wife Caitlin, childhood friend Vera Phillips and her eventual husband William Killick. Now out on DVD!
Edge of Love is set in the 40s and you will know it from the opening bars of the music, Kiera Knightly is finally out of her corset playing Vera, a childhood love of the poet Dylan Thomas who is married to a vaguely slatternly Sienna Miller playing Caitlin until the handsome Cillian Murphy comes along to erase her memories of her former love. The movie if not based on fact is, at least attributed to two books, that look at the life of Dylan Thomas, who by all accounts was somewhat of a reprobate. The first half of the movie is a bit tedious, in establishing the characters, but once Cillian goes off to war, leaving Keira alone withe the Thomas clan in Wales, the second half is well worth your patience about how the two women relate to one another, post-traumatic stress disorder, temptation, loneliness, trust. It is really a movie that will pay off if you will just be a little bit patient. Keira is luminous, though Sienna as the sinned against wife, who also manages her own share of cheating steals the movie by being its heart and soul. Rent it when you have a chance, and order some take out!
