The Dryland – Movie Review
A U.S. soldier returning home from war struggles to reconcile his experiences abroad with the life and family he left in Texas.
The Dry Land looks at the story of a young Iraq Veteran, as he returns to El Paso, Texas, and really struggles to resume his normal life. His wife is America Ferrera, and his mother is played by the terrific Melissa Leo, and Jason Ritter plays his son. This is not a bad story, even though it lacks any trace of subtlety. The problem is that the same story was really done by Toby MacGuire and Jake Gyllenhaal in Brothers, and it was done better. This is not a horrible story, it’s just that we’ve seen it before. For originality, it gets no points. For being well-acted, it gets several points, so I would give it three stars.
