JOY’S REVIEW

THE BOOK OF MORMON: You have to have been on another planet to not understand the Book of Mormon is from the creators of South Park. And to be quite honest, you know I had heard different things about it. I’d heard it was something to offend everybody, and that it was downright hilarious. And it’s both those things. I expected it, to be quite honest, probably a little more edgy than I got, but that’s okay with me. This is really fun. It’s very likely going to win the Tony. I could compare it to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The costumes are much better in Priscilla, and Priscilla is more fun. This one is fun and smart and means something, and it’s surprisingly sweet. I mean, it’s not particularly edgy, it’s only shocking occasionally. But I think this is going to be one of the huge hits of the season, surprisingly enough. End even people who are a little uncomfortable sort of get carried along, I think, in the appreciation of the crowd for the fact that somebody’s done something new and it’s different, it’s smart, it’s original, and it’s surprisingly fun. So, I’ll give it four and a half stars. And it’s going to win the Tony.
