The Amazing Spider-Man

JOY REVIEW

This is the newest of the Spider-Mans, and this one replaces Toby Maguire with Andrew Garfield and Kirsten Dunst with Emma Stone, and Dennis Leary plays the father of Emma Stone. One of the problems I had about this movie, even though it was great fun, is that why don’t we set it in college? I mean, making them high school students when they clearly are in their 20s doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, and I think making them college students would be a lot more forgiving. Andrew Garfield is a terrific actor. I mean, Toby Maguire is terrific as well, but he gives a whole different sense, especially physically to who Spider-Man is. This is great fun. The flying sequences are really magical and, for some reason, Andrew Garfield seems a little more light hearted and vaguely more sophisticated. Sally Fields is a pleasure to watch as the aunt and Martin Sheen as the ill-fated uncle. I thought this was great fun. I guess people could argue why are they making the movie so soon after the Tobey McQuire version, but why not.  I’d give it three and a half stars.
