Ted

JOY REVIEW

TED Admit it, you’ve seen the posters, you’ve seen the trailers for Ted and you are thinking, ‘missable.’  Well you might be selling yourself a bit short. It’s Mark Walberg playing a boy who at eight wishes his teddy bear would come to life, and darned if it doesn’t. Seth MacFarlane, who also directed the movie, plays the teddy bear. Mila Kunis plays the girlfriend who can’t quite get her cute boy to grow up. This is kind of this year’s Borat. It’s rude, crude, and hilariously funny. Most people went into it sort of gritting their teeth and came out of it sort of smiling and dealing with all the sort of rude, crude jokes. It is rude and crude, sort of a combination of Borat and Chucky, but you may find yourself surprisingly amused, but it’s not for small kids. The teddy bear is, as I said, rude and crude and something icky happens with the teddy bear, which I am not going to tell you too much about. Giovanni Ribisi plays a bad guy in this. They sort of put this character in here for no particular reason except one basic arc, one basic plot turn, but it takes too long — the movie is a bit too long, but it still is surprisingly funny. Three stars.
