Star Trek – Movie Review
The greatest adventure of all time begins with “Star Trek,” the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created: the U.S.S. Enterprise. In the midst of an incredible journey full of optimism, intrigue, comedy and cosmic peril, the new recruits must find a way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind.
Pick of the Week!
Is it as good as you hoped it would be? Yeah, it may even be a little bit better. It’s J. J. Abrams basically reinventing the franchise. We get to meet Bones and Sulu, and Ahura, and Spock, and of course Kirk. As their young manifestations, we find out how they all ended up on the USS Enterprise. We find the Romulans, and the Klingons — if you don’t know what I’m talking about you’re probably not a trekie, but this is a fun movie even if you’re not. It’s one that will give you a kick. The fight sequences are satisfying, the special effects are state of the art, and the music may be the most fun part of the movie in that it really gives you a sophisticated way of thinking about things that you wouldn’t necessarily think about on your own. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, or any of the fun of discovering this on your own. The first 10 or 15 minutes you’re going to think “gee, what am I doing here”, but trust me it really does get better and you’ll love the last hour and 45 minutes, and since it’s only a two hour plus movie, it’s well worth your time investment. Four stars.
