Something Borrowed stars Ginnifer Goodwin as a lawyer who has no shark-like instincts and is a friend to Kate Hudson, who’s engaged. The movie opens with a surprise party thrown by Kate for Ginnifer, where Kate just ends up talking exclusively about herself. So we have a sense of the friendship and for any woman who sees this movie, we know that there’s always a dominant person in the friendship and a submissive person in the friendship. And how this works out with Kate Hudson’s fiance Dex, played by the too good to be true Colin Egglesfield, whom Ginnifer actually introduced her to while still having a crush on him. This is a romantic comedy, but it’s also a movie about friendship and how complicated female friendships, especially adult female friendships are, and even though you’ve grown up together, how you grow together and how you grow apart and what happens about it. So, it’s really bittersweet. We’ve seen scenes that are similar, but this one seems to take it on a slightly more profound level. I’d give it three and a half stars.
