She’s Out of My League
An average Joe meets the perfect woman, but his lack of confidence and the influence of his friends and family begin to pick away at the relationship.
She’s Out of My League is a surprisingly sweet movie, somewhat predictable, but well acted with a good cast. When a boy rated on a five hotness scale between 1 and 10 runs into a girl who is a ten, his buddies all point out that you can’t cover the spread of five points. The most differential there could be between hotties and nerds is two points, so as much as she seems to like him, he just can’t quite get over the hump. He is Jay Bruchel, who is very sweet faced and probably looks much better in person than he does on this film. He’s been cuter in the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which isn’t out yet, How to Train Your Dragon. He was also in Million Dollar Baby, Tropic Thunder, Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, and, Knocked Up, but he’s always played the sidekick. In this one, he is the leading man and actually is quite adorable. His lady love, Molly, is Alice Eve, who is very pretty and she’s actually sweet and charming and probably not a ten as the movie would have her be, but still a pretty woman. She was in Starter For Ten in 2006, which I thought was terrific. So, she’s a talented actress and a pretty woman, and the posse is adorable as well. So, this one gets four stars for what it is.
