Shall We Kiss – Movie Review

When Gabriel and Emilie meet by chance, he offers her a ride, and they spend the evening talking, laughing and getting along famously. At the end of the night, Emilie declines Gabriel’s offer of “a kiss without consequences”. Emilie admonishes him that the kiss could have unexpected consequences, and tells him a story, unfolding in flashbacks, about the impossibility of indulging your desires without affecting someone else’s life.

Shall We Kiss (Un Baiser S’il Vous Plait) is a movie whose title makes the whole experience sound less fun than it actually’s a lovely little movie that talks about a chance encounter and how two strangers can share their life and be tempted by one another. Everything about the movie was lovely. The acting was terrific, the scenery was beautiful, all the people are gorgeous. It’s a great premise, but looks at the downsides, (as if there were an upside of adultery), although it also looks at the temptations and the sheer sexiness involved in adultery. Everything works beautifully in the movie, except the last 2.5 minutes. I’m not going to tell you why, but you’ll understand it when you see it.
