You got to love a gimmick, if you love a gimmick then you will love Rocky, because there is a multiplicity of gimmicks, the first is the big one, which is, it is based on a movie that everyone knows and everybody loves, and a character that everybody knows and loves. The second gimmick is the music from the orginial movie, which everybody knows and loves. The third gimmick is the fight with Apollo Creed that takes place in the middle of the audience for the final 20 minutes of the show. So there are at least, four, maybe five gimmicks going on. The final gimmick is that the characters in the play seem to imitate the characters in the movie. The new music is okay, the actress that plays Adrian sings well, but the lyrics leave a little to be desired. But the real issue is, do you really want to see these people sing. It kind of like watching a musical of Hamlet I suppose, it not that it is a terrible idea, I mean musicals are all about people breaking out in song, but it just seems a little odd for these characters.; But having said that, if you love a gimmick, you should really enjoy Rocky, because it is just silly fun, it is kind of the Stallone version of Spamalot, 3 stars
