Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages is based on the Broadway play, which to be quite honest I didn’t like particularly. I think the movie is a great improvement in the same way that I thought the movie Chicago was much better than the play Chicago. It doesn’t happen all that often, but it certainly happened here. This one stars the young woman who is played by Juliana Hough, who I know is dating Ryan Seacrest — and she certainly is pretty — but we don’t care at all about the two principles. She comes in, and she finds Drew and he’s going to get her a job at Bourban, which is a rock and roll place in L.A., and Catherine Zeta Jones is the mayor’s wife, who’s Bryan Cranston, and then we have Stacee Jaxx who’s played by Tom Cruise, and the club owner who’s played by Alec Baldwin and his lieutenant played by Russell Brand. The reason to go see this movie — first of all the songs are great, and second of all the oldsters Alex Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine to a certain extent, but mostly Tom Cruise, are really wonderful. Tom Cruise as kind of a depressed, drugged out, ex-heavymetal rocker is wonderful. He doesn’t even crack the Tom Cruise smile, and I don’t even think he does even at the very end, but he’s really fun to watch. So I would give it four stars.
