Red Tails

JOY REVIEW

Red Tails is a movie about the African-American fighter pilots in World War II, which is sort of a not very well known story, although many of us have know about the Tuskegee Group that were the all-black unit, the story of the pilots is less well known. The two best known people in this one are Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard, but this is kind of silly. And Gerald McRaney stars as Colonel Bullard who sends them into war. I just thought the dialogue was so silly, it was literally laughable. At one point, somebody pulls out a black Jesus, and the audience that I saw it with started giggling. The aerial action shots are George Lucas; not George Lucas style, but they’re George Lucas because he actually did the flying sequences. What can I tell you? I’d give it maybe one star for having its heart in the right place, but somebody should have done a little better job on the writing and the acting and anything else. I mean, it’s just as one of the people sitting next to me, who happens to be African-American, said: this is a cartoon. It is. Probably should’ve been done in animation. The story deserves better. One star.
