Rated P for Parenthood

This is a 90 minute review with, believe it or not, 26 songs that all relate to parenthood. It’s at the Westside Theater, which is on 43rd Street, and this is one of the more talented casts that I’ve seen in the city. One of the reasons I think this works so well is because there is a unifying theme that starts from before birth until kids going off to college. The cast is uniformly talented. They’re two men and two women. It’s funny, it’s smart, there are probably a couple of situations that I would take out, but four or five of them are truly brilliant. The two dads doing rap about get ready for the parent teacher conference and the love song first thing in the morning definitely stand out, and even the ones that don’t work quite as well still work. Four stars.
