LIZARD IN THE DESERT

RANGO

SYNOPSIS

Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

JOY’S REVIEW

Rango was one of those things that I went into kicking and screaming because it is kind of an ugly lizard voiced by Johnny Depp and the whole movie is directed by Gore Verbinski who did Pirates of the Caribbean, so I am thinking, uh, I don’t know about that, at least it wasn’t in 3D. And it turns out to be fresh and funny and very cute. It is kind of a combination of Chinatown and High Noon and Johnny Depp, I guess. And it is voiced by a whole lot of people. You know what I am not going to tell you who it is voiced by because I want you to just enjoy the movie as opposed to trying to figure out who it is, but some seriously big names. Rango is an iguana who is in a aquarium — you know I am not going to tell you anything about this movie. I am just going to tell you. It is fresh. It is funny. It is more adult than kid, but your kids will probably like the animation. There’s nary a human being in it. They are all rodents, groundhogs, or iguanas or snakes. It is very reptilian. But you are going to have a great time at this movie. Four and a half stars.
