Prometheus is from Ridley Scott, and it’s kind of a prequel, I guess, to Alien. It’s got some of the best graphics you have ever seen in your life. The opening scenes are just unbelievable. The first hour just really rocks. It is in 3-D, and it stars Noomi Rapace, who was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo; I suppose she will forever be known that way. And she is kind of an odd presence. It kind of works, and I guess she looks vaguely like Ripley from Alien, who was played by Sigourney Weaver. She’s a scientist who has a cute boyfriend, and they end up — well, I’m not going to tell you too much about it. The plot is very convoluted and weird, and they have been frozen cryogenically, and they found the same cave painting in all these different societies, so they are going to see if they can find the creator. Charlize Theron plays a kind of ice princess. Basically, she plays the wicked stepmother again in this movie, so she’s having two great weekends. She’s the stepmother in Snow White, and basically the same role in Prometheus. But she does it so well, who cares? And Guy Pearce plays Wayland — head of Wayland Industries, whose financing this trillion-dollar trip into space. Okay, what do you need to know about this? You need to know that Idris Elba also plays the space captain. The graphics — as I said, the first hour is terrific. The second hour — and yeah it’s a two-hour movie, got a little graphically violent for me once the space creatures start wreaking their havoc; genuinely unbelievable special effects. There’s some genuinely heart-thumping chases and this is basically a great summer fun ride. It’s not for the squeamish, and it’s not for young children. It’s probably not even for children at all. I’d give it three and a half stars.
