A group of teenagers get ready for their high school prom.
Prom is the latest from Disney, and lamentably it’s no High School Musical, it’s not a musical at all. There’s part of it that I sort of liked, in that instead of being all glassy eyed and, gee, isn’t prom wonderful, it really looks at a beauty queen whose boyfriend is cheating, a sophomore who is basically being seduced by the head of the lacrosse team captain, another sophomore who is also being co-opted by the same creepy guy, so he has access to the girl sophomores. It’s got the president of the committee who thinks that somebody is going to ask her, and then he finks out on her, and the school rebel who’s assigned to work on the committee once there is a disaster.– it’s kind of an after-school special to be quite honest. But the kids are interesting enough, and most of us have worried enough about prom that it’ll probably hold your interest, although it ain’t going to be around at Oscar time, and don’t look for there to be a television series following up on it. Having said that though, your tweens will probably like it, the boys will have nothing to do with it, but the girls might be okay with it. I’m okay with two-and-a-half stars.
