Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding

JOY REVIEW

Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding stars Jane Fonda and Catherine Keener as estranged mother and daughter, where Jane Fonda is playing a hippie who lives in Woodstock. Everybody thinks of Jane Fonda as being the ultimate hippie, but actually she was living the life of luxury during the 60s with Roger Vadim in Paris. Even by her own report, she was really never a hippie, she was just anti-war. This is basically, to be quite honest, a Hallmark hall of fame movie. It’s — are they going to get together, do they care about each other, yada, yada, but the acting is so good. Ms. Olsen is in it, there are hunky men, and there are adolescent hunks. It’s got all the sort of cookie cutter pieces. But what will make you remember this is just that the acting is good. It’s kind of fun, it’s painless, it’s just past endings and people getting involved with other people when their husband has just told them they want a divorce: not exactly what this doctor recommends. Okay. I’d give it two and a half stars.
