On the Ice
On The Ice concerns a bunch of kids in Barrow, Alaska, which is getting a huge amount of play because it was just in Big Miracle as well; it clearly snows a lot there. These are kids who go out in snowmobiles, a tragedy occurs, and then it explores how it affects all their lives. One of the kids is an Inuit who is very smart and going off to college and his friend clearly understands he’s not going off to college. The scenery is fabulous. The kids are sullen. The problem is that the acting is pretty amateurish in this one, which is really a huge disadvantage. It’s clearly sincere, but not very polished. The story is pretty interesting, but the acting is amateurish enough to kind of not make it a fabulous movie. But is an interesting one. I’d give it two and a half stars.
