Of Mice and Men is not one of my favorite plays, John Steinbeck’s look at the working class and their prejudices. This is a wonderful cast, James Franco plays George, who isnot bad in it, but he is blown off the stage by Chris O’Dowd who plays Lenny. I was talking with some other people at the theater after seeing this, and they’ve seen Steinbeck’s work a gazillion times, and they say they think his Lenny is the best ever, he is just amazing. The story of two men who are very different, but they are united by loneliness who go to find a job on a ranch and have a fantasy. the rest of the cast is uniformly good, Leighton Meester plays Curly’s wife…I thought she was okay, the play is not really about her. This is an extraordinary performance by Chris O’Dowd, who is a terrific actor, and he is worth the price of admission, 4.5 stars
