Not Quite Hollywood
Not Quite Hollywood – Movie Review
Finally an Aussie film packed full of boobs, pubes, tubes … and a bit of kung fu.
“Not Quite Hollywood” is the story of the Australian Film industry; most of us think of “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and “The Wave”, really arty, lovely movies, but as this documentary points out that Australians really had no film industry. At the same time they were developing the fancy parts, they were also doing sexploitation films that had the first frontal nudity in films. In fact the Italians copied them. And there were the first slasher, gory flicks. This documentary is really a hoot for the first half when it is dealing with sex and interviews people like Quentin Tarantino as well Barry Humphries, who you know as Dame Edna. Which is funny and silly and ribald. The second half is not as much fun because I don’t think gore is nearly as much fun as sex, although maybe a lot of people equate them. I would give the first part of the documentary probably a four and the second a two, so three stars.
