Mothers and Sons is the new play from Terrance McNally, who writes terrific plays. This stars Tyne Daly, Fred Weller, and Bobby Steggert, it is bit of master class watching the quietness of Tyne Daly. The story is a woman goes to visit her dead son’s ex-lover who is now in a new relationship with a new man and they have a son. So it is a story of loss, and what might have been and a very angry woman. It kept me on the verge of tears from the beginning, partially because I lived through the era of when some many men died of AIDS, and this is what this is really all about, and the fallout from it. This will touch your heart as it talks about potential and moving on and not moving on. This is a really terrific play and the only objection I have is the kid, who I couldn’t hear very well. 4.5 stars.
