Monsters – Movie Review

Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Monsters is actually a fairly interesting either metaphor or paranoid fantasy that I will just read you the opening line. It says in 2009, NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples from Europa, Jupiter’s moon that crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear there and half of Mexico was quarantined as an affected zone. It’s directed, written, and produced by Gareth Edwards. He’s won bafta awards and Emmy’s for visual affects for the BBC and the Discovery Channel. So, the special effects here are really very special. The leads are good enough. But, I think it’s a metaphor, at one point there is a wall that keeps the monsters out of the United States, it keeps the aliens, wink wink, out of the United States. I really liked it. Some people are going to love it, some people are going to hate it. I gave it three and a half stars.
