Moneyball

JOY REVIEW

Moneyball is based on a non-fiction work talking about how to change baseball, and baseball movies, unless you are Bull Durham or the Bad News Bears, tend to not do very well. However, this one is actually terrific. I mean, it is certainly helped along by the gorgeousness of Brad Pitt, which is absolutely distracting sometimes. Somebody said that Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing the Oakland A’s coach didn’t really look like him, and I thought to myself, ‘if Billy Beane looks like Brad Pitt I am moving to Oakland.’ Jonah Hill plays kind of the nerd that says people don’t understand baseball and proceeds to explain how a team that has no money, only 25% of the money that the Yankees have, can do well. I really like this movie. I thought it was a little bit too long. It really had three different endings. We didn’t care so much about the relationship between Brad and his daughter, but the baseball stuff is great and I just thought it was a really fun movie. Three and a half stars
