Mirror, Mirror

JOY REVIEW

Mirror, Mirror is a retelling of the Snow White story with some noticeable differences. First of all, Julia Roberts plays the wicked stepmother. The first part of the film is actually done with figurines. Then Snow White is played by a new comer, who’s kind of cute. She looks Snow White-esque, but the real reason to see this movie is Armie Hammer plays the prince. Oh, is he cute. Nathan Lane plays the advisor to the queen, and this is actually better than I expected it to be. I know that’s sort of damning by faint praise, and I really don’t mean to do that. The idea is that I guess Julia is playing against type, but she could have played a little more against type as far as I’m concerned, but it’s still an appealing film. You’ll laugh, and everything turns out in the end — make sure you stay for the end credits. I actually like this movie. I’ll give it three and a half stars.
